The Most Dangerous Bacteria You Touch Everyday

Which of these three things harbors the most dangerous bacteria; keyboard, toilet or phone? Well, it’s not the toilet. Believe it or not, the toilet is the cleanest of these objects!

Studies have found that the toilet can be up to 150 times cleaner than a phone or the keyboard. They are the two main objects in your office that are most likely to cause sickness after touching. That’s because they contain millions of tiny little dangerous bacteria that range from the common cold, to MRSA and the Qwerty tummy bug, named after first six letters on the keyboard.

But hey, don’t panic. There is no need to run screaming out of the office never to return!

All you need to do is reach over to your hand sanitizer dispenser, squirt that magic germ killing liquid on your hands and hey presto, the most dangerous bugs are dead. Now that we can all breathe easy again knowing there is a quick fix for this bug problem, let’s take a closer look at what bacteria live on our phones and keyboards.

Most Dangerous Bacteria Up Your Nose

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that is commonly found on our skin and in our noses. Normally it does not cause any problems, unless we have a low immunity, an open wound or touch something that has high concentrations of this bug on it.

Staphylococcus aureus can cause boils, toxic shock syndrome, cellulitis, folliculitis, impetigo, MRSA, MSSA, Scalded Skin Syndrome and even Staph food poisoning.

It gets worse though, if S. aureus gets into your bloodstream it can cause pneumonia and heart infections that can lead to heart attacks or blood poisoning. It is helpful to know that exposure to UV light will help kill S. aureus, but are you willing to take the chance of some of the most dangerous bacteria still crawling on your hands?

It’s better to be safe than sorry and get yourself a hand dispenser sanitizer to kill those germs on hand. Use hand sanitizer regularly and also anti bacterial wipes on your keyboard and phone.

Most Dangerous Bugs Swimming In Your Intestines

Escherichia coli or E. coli as it is commonly known, is yet another bacteria that occurs naturally within most of us. Unfortunately it is also commonly found on our phones and keyboards too.

It lives in our intestines and usually does not have any side effects, but some strains of it can make us very sick. E.coli can cause bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, severe anemia, kidney failure and even death.

That is pretty gross really, especially when you think that it comes from our intestines, meaning that microscopic traces of fecal matter containing E.coli are on our desks!

You can stop this disgusting invasion by using a hand soap dispenser with anti bacterial gel after going to the toilet, as well as our friend the hand sanitizer.

Most Dangerous Animal Bacteria Inside Of Us

Enterobacteria are another type of bacteria that are also found in our intestines, as well as carried by cows, chickens and reptiles. So unless a bunch of farm animals have visited your office recently, fecal matter has made its wicked way onto your desk via somebody’s dirty hands.

Salmonella is one of the germs that makes up the enterobacteria group and it is spread by poor hygene. The symptoms are vomiting, nausea, fever, diarrhea, headache, abdominal cramps, enlarged spleen and a spotty rash.

Infection is easily preventable though; just use some antibacterial cleaner after going to the toilet and before eating.

Using Hand Sanitizer Can Prevent Catching The Flu

But wait, there’s more! Did you know you can catch the flu or the common cold from talking on your phone? They are both spread via microscopic virus droplets which come from our colleague’s mouth and that cafe worker’s nose that swirl around in the air and also settle onto your phone sat on the table.

Because your phone is traditionally held up close to your face, you are most likely going to breathe them in and become infected yourself.

If like many of us, you are smiling away now thinking you are safe because you use a hand free kit, stop smiling. You are just as vulnerable because at some stage you would have had to touch your phone and those little sneaky virus’ are now on your hands.

Did you just look at your phone? Stop what you are doing and find the hand sanitizer dispenser right now!

Hand Sanitizer To The Rescue

Okay, so how exactly does hand sanitizer help us?

It is an antibacterial solution usually containing isopropanol or ethanol alcohol which can kill up to 99 percent of bacteria. It works by stripping off the outer layer of oil on our skin on which the most dangerous bugs are found.

The three main forms that hand sanitizer comes in are foam hand soap, antibacterial liquid and anti bacterial gel and there are many different forms of packaging. It is easily available and simple to use.

We all should have a hand sanitizer dispenser on our desks and use it regularly. And please, wash your hands after visiting the toilet. Feces on our keyboards and phones is so unattractive.

Matcha green tea, a finely-milled green tea powder, shares many of the beneficial antioxidants found in other kinds of green tea leaf and is full of natural substances that improve health and well-being in a lot of different ways.

If you find yourself getting sleepy at your desk by the time 3 P.M. comes around, drinking green tea is a far better choice than coffee if you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up. Although matcha tea does contain caffeine, it has two to three times less than black tea and only 10% the amount found in coffee.

Millions of people across the globe drink matcha green tea for its health benefits such as protection from heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of brain, prostate, cervical and bladder cancer.

The difference between various teas is the method used to process the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis tea plant, with white tea being the least processed, followed by green tea, oolong tea and black tea.

In 2003, the University of Colorado reported that the concentration of EGCG, a natural polyphenol that prevents various chronic diseases, is up to 137 times greater in matcha green tea than the amount of EGCG from other types of green tea sold in the U.S.

Even if you don’t like tea, drinking matcha tea as part of a healthy diet is recommended to improve overall health and wellness. A healthy body burns fat faster than an unhealthy one and tea can assist with weight loss.

Matcha Green Tea Boosts The Immune System

The vitamins and antioxidants found in green tea and white tea naturally kill off bacteria and viruses. A healthy body leads to greater work productivity, overall happiness and lower stress levels.

Antioxidants are known to help fight off damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals that are linked to various chronic diseases.

Protect Against DNA Damage

Matcha green tea contains EGCG, a natural polyphenol, which has been shown to slow cancer growth and protect cells from DNA damage. Research has also shown that drinking green tea daily shrank tumors in some patients.

Matcha Green Tea Reverses Signs Of Aging

The natural polyphenol EGCG found in matcha green tea rejuvenates dying skin cells, keeping skin looking fresh and healthy. This natural remedy to help prevent wrinkles also helps with ulcers, wounds, psoriasis and eczema.

Lower Blood Pressure

What’s the best way to lower your blood pressure levels by 2 to 3 points? Daily consumption of three or more cups of black or green tea per day! Even a small decrease in blood pressure drastically reduces your risk of stroke or coronary heart disease.matcha green tea pot

Keep Your Partner or Date Happy

No-one wants to kiss a dirty mouth (unless that’s your thing) and tea can help even the most unhygienic of us. Matcha Green Tea contains fluoride that strengthens teeth as well as having the ability to kill plaque-causing bacteria, tooth decay and also bad breath.

Matcha Green Tea Helps With Weight Loss

Matcha green tea boosts the body’s metabolism and helps burn fat faster. Tea drinkers raise their metabolism by 4.5% for as long as 8 hours after a cup, where three cups of green tea a day can help burn off 3 pounds of fat per year.

Stronger Bones

Regular matcha green tea drinkers have higher bone density lending to stronger bones. The chemical epigallocatechin (EGC) achieves up to 79% extra bone growth by enhancing bone mineralization in the cells and also blocks the activity of osteoclast, a type of cell that breaks down bones.

Matcha Green Tea Rehydrates The Body

If you’re feeling thirsty after a session of exercise, there is only one fluid better than water to help re-hydrate your body – matcha green tea. The truth is that water does the same job as tea, except that water does not have the added antioxidant benefits.

A Word Of Warning

Even though matcha tea’s caffeine content is 10% to 20% that of coffee, drinking excessive amounts can lead to side effects such as irritability, insomnia, heart palpitations and dizziness.

If you have a heart condition, kidney disease, stomach ulcer or anxiety disorder, avoid drinking any form of tea or caffeinated drink.

All In Moderation

Two or three cups of matcha green tea per day is the recommended amount that will lead to the greatest of health benefits. Tea comes with many more health benefits including weight loss with lower cholesterol and diabetes prevention. Additionally, you have higher mental alertness and decreased stress.

Go ahead. Put the kettle on.

We’ve all been there. It’s late at night and you should be asleep, but your brain is filled with ideas that keep you awake.

Sleep is a vital process to maintain our health that takes up one third of our whole lives.

Insufficient sleep can impair cognition, lower daily energy levels and has been linked to several illnesses. Not to mention, affecting our mood.

Yet the brightest minds in science cannot fully explain why sleep is so critical. However, new research has come up with a compelling theory that sleep allows our brains to clean themselves.

In a paper from University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) recently published in Science magazine, the research team built upon previous work that had identified what’s called the glymphatic system.

Where the lymphatic system clears unwanted byproducts, toxins and other materials from the body, the glymphatic system does a similar job for our brain’s gray matter.

"We’ve known for a long time that the brain lacks a traditional lymphatic system. But the glymphatic system, we now know, eliminates waste buildup instead."Rashid Deane, a neurologist at URMC

Share This Quote:

Using an imaging technique known as two-photon microscopy, the researchers found that the glymphatic system was significantly more active when mice were asleep compared to when awake.

"What we found was about a tenfold increase in activity. That tells us that sleep appears to be significant in helping the brain eliminate unwanted byproducts."

Share This Quote:

What’s most fascinating is the physical difference in the brain when asleep. The team found that space between brain cells increased during resting states, which allows more room for the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to flow along and pick up waste products as a part of the cleaning process. From there, waste is ushered out of the brain and eventually broken down in the liver.

The researchers believe the glymphatic system speeds up during sleep due to reallocation of the body’s energy. The process requires significant energy consumption, so when the brain and body is less active, the cleaning process can do a much better job.

"You can think of it like having a house party. You can either entertain the guests or clean up the house, but you can’t do both at once."

Share This Quote:

Maintaining a healthy glymphatic system is important for brain health and may play a role in neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Other theories on why we sleep suggest it’s vital for memory storage and consolidation, or simply that sleep allows the body time to repair damaged tissue and for muscle growth.

5 Healthiest Foods Not To Skimp In Your Super Food Diet

Successful people in business are also successful in other areas of their lives and know the best super food to eat that gets them through the day. Their energy levels come down their choice of the healthiest foods to eat for breakfast.

Motivational speaker, Tony Robbins said,

“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.”

As many successful people are incorporating superfoods such as acai berries, salmon, avocado, mangosteen, oats, nuts, eggs and berries into their breakfast menus, perhaps we too should copy their food choices?

1. Acai Berries

It helps promote muscle contraction and cardiovascular and digestive health, as well as reducing the effects of premature aging.

Researchers from Texas A&M University agree and say that if we drink acai berry juice daily, we can significantly increase the amount of antioxidants in our blood, which helps to improve the neurological processes in our brains.

We could incorporate acai berries into our breakfast menu by adding them to our cereal, drinking acai juice or blending them into a smoothie.

Break Time

Reduce Computer Eye Strain Symptoms With A 5 Minute Break

Our brains and bodies are not designed to work 24/7 and this lifestyle can lead to computer eye strain symptoms and searching for headache remedies.

Dr Joyce Brothers, American psychologist and TV personality, certainly hit the nail on the head when she said, “No matter how much pressure you feel at work, if you could find ways to relax for at least five minutes every hour, you’d be more productive.”

Our bodies require food and relaxation, even during the busiest times at the office. In fact the busier we are, taking a break becomes even more important. Do you need some convincing?

Reduce Computer Eye Strain And Remedy Headaches

No matter what type of work we do, we need to use our eyes to do it. Our eyes need a rest too, especially if we spend a lot of time looking at the computer or do close up work.

Computer eye strain symptoms include eye pain, blurred vision, red sore eyes, headaches, sore neck, back and shoulders and watery or dry eyes. It is helpful to take a 5 minute break to focus your eyes on a range of objects of different sizes, colours and at a range of distances.

This relaxes the focusing muscle in the eye and prevents accommodative spasm, which is when the eyes ‘lock up’ due to prolonged periods of focusing.

When we have a 5 minute break every hour, we rest and revitalize our minds and bodies. This allows us to continue to give 100% to our work and achieve more over our working day than if we did not have breaks. This period of rest is one of the best headache remedies and prevention of computer eye strain.

Here are more great reasons to take a five minute break every hour while at work.

Reduce Our Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a measure of body shape, based upon height and weight. Sedentary office work can increase our BMI if we are not careful.

If we use our five minute break to take a quick walk up and down the stairs or try a few exercises, we raise our metabolic rate, or the speed at which we burn calories.

Just by walking around for five minutes every hour during an eight hour work day, the average adult will use an extra 132 calories. As long as we don’t replace what we are using with poor food choices, our BMI will reduce, as well as our waistlines!

Reduce Our Stress Levels

Even if we don’t admit it, being busy does make us more stressed. Just a short five minute break will reduce the level of stress our bodies are under.

A study in Finland found that office workers who did not take a break were more stressed and more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease due to a build-up of the level of plaque in their arteries. Their colleagues, who did take a break, were less stressed and consequently did not have the same levels of plaque.

When we are less stressed we also tend to think more clearly and are consequently more productive at work.

Reduce The Likelihood Of Making Mistakes

Walking to get a drink of water or standing and stretching for five minutes each hour, will increase our levels of alertness and concentration.

This in turn will mean we are less likely to trip over the rubbish bin or type embarrassing and potentially business losing errors in our emails!

As our levels of alertness increase we become more accurate, creative and productive, which means we would achieve more than if we just pushed through and continued working.

Reduce Physical Discomfort

Did you know that sitting down can hurt your back? When we remain in a sitting position for over thirty minutes, an unhealthy amount of stress is placed upon our spines.

Muscular atrophy and vertebral disk problems can be caused by sitting continuously for long periods of time. But when we take short breaks often and use this time to walk around, we can significantly lower the risk of this happening.

Walking moves our muscles and bones, which prevents repetitive strain injuries caused by using the same muscles in the same position for too long.

Ovid, a Roman poet born in 43 BC, whose poetry inspired European literature and art and who is one of the most important sources of Greek mythology, had it right when he said “Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.”

We all benefit from a break, so go on and take one now!

Do you have pot plants nestled near the entrance of your home or business? Physical appearances count and indoor plants can have a huge impact. Whenever we walk into an office or place of business, we look around and judge its appearance, even sub-consciously.

The way an office looks impacts on how we feel about working in the same office every day. The same perception applies to clients visiting our office as well.

Office Plants Improve Our Workspace

Potted plants can influence how we are feeling, how hard we work and even improve the air quality within our offices. However, before rushing out and buying a trailer load of new indoor plants, we must choose the most appropriate ones for our workplaces.

Artificial Trees

artificial pot plants Having a bunch of dead pot plants or dusty artificial trees are not attractive features for any office. We need to take into consideration the availability (or lack of) natural light, office size, plant maintenance, type and size of plants and whether you prefer real or fake plants.

If you believe watering and fertilizing and maintenance of pot plants are a major hassle, there are many beautiful artificial trees and fake plants available of varying sizes, color and materials. The odd dusting is all that’s required for these to look in tip top condition and most fake pot plants look so real they even catch out the experts from a distance.

Artificial plants are great if you suffer from plant allergies and still want to be surrounded in nature. Smaller sized fake flowers and fake pot plants fit in the corner of an office desk or shelf and don’t shed leaves or petals – nothing to clean up!

One huge benefit going for fake plants is that they provide vibrant color all year round.

Indoor Plants

Living indoor house plants have a lot going for them. As well as looking great, they can reduce our stress levels as they are calming to look at. Toxins from the furniture, carpet, photocopier and even air freshener are sucked up and removed by real potted plants. It is also amazing the number of us that even talk to our plants! Well, they seem to grow better then, don’t they?

Three common indoor house plants tend to be seen most frequently in our offices. They are:

  • the spider plant,
  • mother in laws tongue,
  • golden pothos.

These indoor plants are popular because they are cheap, look good and are hard to kill.

None of these indoor plants require much watering or fertilizer. A random removal of damaged leaves and a quick dust and they will reward us with something nice to look at and fresher air in our offices.

The Spider Plant

pot plants The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) looks good on a raised pedestal or in a handing basket, as its white and green striped leaves tumble downwards from the pot.

Occasionally it will grow little baby copies of itself which also trail down, more often when we provide water once a week and position it where it will get some natural light.

Mother In Laws Tongue

potted plants The mother in laws tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata), also known as a snake plant, gets its name from the long pointy leaves that make up this plant. Apart from that, the leaves have pointy, spikey ends that look like snakes and apparently taste bitter. How many of us have mother in laws that are bitter and have a sharp tongue?

The good news is that this plant only requires a minimal level of maintenance and attention, unlike real mother in laws! So the odd watering will encourage this interesting plant to thrive.

The Golden Pothos

artificial plants The golden pothos (Epipremnum aureum) looks and behaves like ivy. It is also known as devils ivy due to the way it can grow vigorously.

The leaves are large and arrow head shaped, mostly green but with yellow patches here and there. The golden pothos is a great one to add to your list if you’re a death dealer to pot plants as it is happy with only the occasional watering and fertilizer feeding – when we remember to do so!

Pot Plants Improve Feng Shui

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese theology that the positioning of certain objects can improve the positive energy flowing around a space, like our office.

The money tree, officially known as Crassula Ovata or Jade tree, is said to bring its owner wealth, money and prosperity. Be sure to place this plant in the south-east part of your office to improve your chances, according to feng shui principles.

If lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) is a feature within your office, watch out for office romances!

bamboo pot plant This indoor plant is said to bring health, happiness and love, so having one on your desk just may improve your mood and your relationships. Be sure to count the number of bamboo stalks on your pot plant though, as feng shui says each number is said to provide a different aspect to its owner. However, by just having it in our offices, good luck and positive energy will be ours in abundance.

Lucky bamboo just requires the odd watering, also great for those of us with poor memories.

If we cast a critical eye around our offices, we are all sure to find places where pot plants would be beneficial, be it aesthetically, emotionally or physically. Real or fake, it’s up to you. Both can look just as good as each other, but each provides their own benefits.

Do you have indoor pot plants around your home or office?

Fear Of Failure

How To Overcome Fear Of Failure

How to overcome fear of failure? Just do whatever you’re scared of, apparently.

A fear of failure can cripple the strongest of us all and could be the only force holding us back from success. It’s easy enough to play it safe, dumb down ideas, numb your ambitions and think inside the box.

If there are no physical barriers stopping you from moving forward, the only barrier is your mind. Even physical barriers can be circumvented when you put your mind to it.

Most people underestimate their capabilities to achieve success and also their ability to recover from failure. It is often heard within the entrepreneurial Startup community,

“Fail fast and fail often.”

Essentially, don’t get tangled up in failures. Move on quickly and re-try your ideas in different ways, or try entirely new ideas. Don’t dwell on failure for too long. Each failure is an opportunity to learn from your mistakes.

Those of us while growing up often heard Disney movie quotes as profound words of encouragement,

“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

Theodore Roosevelt said,

“It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.”

Even the wealthiest and most successful people have failed miserably at some point in their lives. For example:

  • Steve Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985, only to be resurrected in 1997 leading to the development of the iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad and taking his company to be the most valuable in the world by the time of his death in 2011.
  • Warren Buffet, billionaire businessmen, was rejected by Harvard University.
  • Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin empire, is a high school dropout.

Atychiphobia: The Fear Of Failure

Often, the psychological fear of failure can be linked to ones childhood or teenage years. For example, overbearing or unsupportive parents, siblings or teachers could be the trigger for some people.

A child routinely humiliated carries those negative feelings into adulthood. Humiliation in adult years can also develop into a fear of failure.

How To Overcome Fear Of Failure

Philosopher, Elbert Hubbard said,

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually be afraid you will make one.”

The following strategies will help you put risk and reward in perspective so you can overcome the fear of failure.

1. Consider The Price Of Missed Opportunities

Netscape founder, Marc Andreessen, said,

“The issue is that without taking risk, you can’t exploit any opportunities. You can live a quiet and reasonably happy life, but you are unlikely to create something new, and you are unlikely to make your mark on the world.”

With bigger risks come bigger rewards. If you’ve ever had an idea only to find years later someone else actually bring it to life while you sat around and did nothing, you’ll understand the price of missed opportunities.

2. Research The Alternatives

A big source of fear is the fear of the unknown. The unknown tends to make us think of the worst case scenario and potential consequences of your actions seem far worse than they actually would be in reality.

Instead of making assumptions, research good and bad aspects of your idea and the potential risks and rewards. This will help you understand the bigger picture and feel more comfortable with it, leading to more logical decisions.

3. The Worst-Case Scenario Has 0.00001% Chance Of Occurring

Tim Ferriss, author of the 4-Hour Workweek asks,

“If you chase your dreams and fall flat on your face, worst-case scenario, how long will it take you to recover?”

The reality is probably less than you expect. How difficult would it be to find another job? As long as you didn’t put all your cards on the table and lose everything you own or cherish, you could probably recover completely within a few months.

Don’t be afraid of the unlikely worst case scenario. Daring to fail doesn’t mean you have to risk losing it all. Fearing a few difficult months will bind you to a mediocre lifestyle, forever.

4. The Benefits Of Failure

19th century poet, Ralph Emerson once said,

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

Consider each failure as an experiment and the knowledge gained as an opportunity for growth.

5. Make A Contingency Plan

Benjamin Franklin gave sage advice when he said,

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

Another way how to overcome the fear of failure is to reduce the risk by creating a contingency plan.

You can capture the benefits of high risk opportunities if you manage that risk cautiously, while also leaving yourself a safety net.

6. Just Do It

Build self-confidence and put fear aside by taking action. The best time to start is now.

By taking small steps and building up your confidence, overcoming the fear of failure is more manageable.

“Failure leads to the evolution of ideas.” – Justin Cohen, editor of Inscribd

Look at failure as an incredible learning experience.

Work Shoes For Women

Work Shoes For Women - High Heel Shoes Or Cute Flats

Mark Twain once said “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” This is also true when it comes to work shoes for women. The decision to wear high heel shoes or cute flats can change the look of our work outfits.

Without shoes, of course, our outfits would be incomplete. Choosing the right work shoes for women is not as easy as the men have it. They just wear a pair of dressy black lace ups. But for us women, it gets slightly more complicated.

Womens shoes can be grouped into two main categories, flats or heels. Each type of shoe sends a different message about the wearer, as well as the fact that different shoes were designed for different purposes.

So let’s get things clearer by investigating the common types of shoes we can and should wear to the office.

Stilettos

Stilettos

Source

Stilettos are probably the most well-known of all women’s shoes due to their almost permanent attachment to the legs of beautiful women everywhere. They are named after the Stiletto Dagger and the phrase ‘Stiletto Heels’ has been around since the 1930’s.

Stilettos have a very narrow heel which can range from two and a half to twenty five centimeters in height and are less than one centimeter wide at the tip base.

They are often worn to the office with short skirts and dress pants due to the way they can alter a woman’s appearance. As stilettos curve our feet and alter our posture, they are most suited to office work where we do not walking too much as they can cause back and leg pain, as well as being a common cause of falls.

Kitten Heels

kitten heels

Source

Kitten heels are a training type version of a stiletto. The heels are usually less than five centimeters in height, so they are much easier to walk in, yet they retain some of the sex appeal of a stiletto.

A kitten heel is most likely to have a closed toe and a curved closed heel and they work well with trouser suits.

Pumps

A pump or court shoe, is one of the most common shoes women wear. If we were in the ‘Office Army’, they would be standard uniform issue as they are pretty much an essential item for every women’s closet!

A pump has a closed toe and a wide closed heel. They are best suited to wear with business suits, but can also be worn with less formal clothing such as jeans or dresses.

Strappy heels and sandals

Strappy heels or sandals usually have an open toe and heel with a strap that goes around your ankle. The heel will often be a kitten, stiletto or spool and varies in height.

They are especially suitable to wear to the office during summer as they are dressy shoes, yet cool to wear. Strappy heels and sandals are best worn with dresses, skirts or light weight pant suits.

Wedges

Wedges are a great alternative to wear to the office if you want a heel but need to walk a lot and don’t fancy being uncomfortable, nor falling over!

The sole raises your entire foot from toe to heel in an elongated triangle shape, making them easy to wear.

The sole is usually made of a light weight material such as cork or wood, while the top can be strappy, closed or have an open heel or toe.

Wedges work well with office attire such as dresses, skirts, suits or pants.

Prism, Puppy, Spool and Cone heels

This tongue-in-cheek picture is indeed about women’s shoes.

Shoes with prism heels (look like an upside down pyramid), Puppy heels (a thicker square heel), Spool heels (an hourglass shape heel) and Cone heels (a round heel which looks like a cone) are not often seen in the office environment.

That’s not to say that we shouldn’t wear them, just that they are not too popular as they fall out of the conventional shape of heels and are often on a boot, not a shoe. They are most commonly worn with trouser suits.

Ballerina shoes

Ballerina or ballet shoes or flats have no heel and have a closed heel and toe. They usually have a tassel type decoration at the toe end and are best worn when you are on your feet all day at work.

Ballet shoes are not as dressy as heels, so are a more casual work shoe. They work well with skirts and dresses.

Work Shoes For Women

When it comes to wearing shoes to the office, two easy rules to remember:

  • Higher heels are dressier than flat heels,
  • Closed toe and heel shoes will go with pretty much anything you wear.

Also remember, a girl can never have too many shoes!
